Our Vision
Pastor Patrick, Founder
Pastor James Patrick was born and grew up in northeastern Michigan. He graduated from Marlette High School in 1960, and then enrolled at Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac. He graduated from Midwestern in 1964 and soon after went on to receive a Masters of Religious Education.
In 1963, Pastor Patrick married Carol Deshetsky, and four years later moved to Moline, Illinois and founded Victory Baptist Church. In 1976, East Moline Christian School was founded offering preschool through 12th grades. In 1988, Pastor Patrick began the Foundations of Liberty publication to be used as an outgrowth for the students of East Moline Christian School. In 1996, the MacArthur Institute was established to take over the publishing of Foundations of Liberty making available numerous materials to private, Christian, and home schools. Subscribers to the publication can be found in all 50 states and Canada.
Pastor Patrick continues to serve as the pastor of Victory Baptist Church, the superintendent of East Moline Christian School, and the editor of Foundations of Liberty.
East Moline Christian School
We live in a day and age in which the basic values that gave birth to America are nearly forgotten. On every hand there is a cry for the government to dictate and control the lives and businesses of other people or organizations so that we may benefit. In addition, the cry is heard across the land for government sponsored programs, tuition tax credits, transportation reimbursement, textbook allowances, hot lunch programs, and a host of other agendas to enhance our educational programs.
We at East Moline Christian School do not want nor do we believe that government should support, sponsor, or control private or Christian schools, nor do we believe that any private or Christian school should seek tax dollars to benefit their programs.
We are committed to the principles that gave birth to America; therefore, we teach without apology the concepts of Biblical law, limited Constitutional government, the right of private property, and the free enterprise system.
If you as a private individual or business hold these principles to be true and wish to contribute to a school that is dedicated to the cause of liberty, we graciously would accept your kind support.
Your gift would be an investment in the lives of young people who in turn will affect the course of the nation. There can be no better investment or greater return on your dollar than that which will promote liberty and freedom both now and for generations to come.
Foundations of Liberty
Our wonderful country is coming apart at the seams. We have forgotten from whence we have come, and we have lost the understanding of our Christian heritage. In an effort to gain materially, we have compromised and turned aside from God's laws. Today, our churches are silent in matters of Biblical and civil laws. Few understand the Biblical principles upon which we were founded, and fewer still understand or appreciate the original intent of our Founding Fathers.
Our homes are breaking down and with that, moral and spiritual values are untaught leaving our youth with little stability and seemingly no sense of right or wrong. The youth of today are a generation without a foundation on which to stand. Realistically, we must acknowledge that no civilization has ever been able to withstand the breakdown of its family structure.
Educationally, we are in even worse shape. Our children are being taught a global philosophy and that they are citizens of the world rather than "Americans." It is sad but true that most children will graduate from school with little knowledge of their Christian heritage and with practically no knowledge of a republic form of government. After all, even Christian and home schools emphasize that we are a democracy within a republic but with emphasis on the word "democracy."
The average student in America will read about great men and life-changing events, but the vast majority will never read what those great men said or wrote. The very best textbooks tell us about the men and the events that shaped America, but most textbooks offer only a few quotes now and then.
In essence, we like Israel of old are going into captivity for a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). We need to return to the old landmarks of our forefathers (Proverbs 22:28).
Finally, we offer a good product that has proven itself over the years. What people do not realize is that some articles were written by students, and that students of East Moline Christian School play a vital role in producing our materials. We hire students in the summer to print our booklets. During the school year, we enlist the help of thirty to thirty-five students to assemble the booklets into their final format. We will do this four or five times during the course of the year. In addition, each year we have parents who exchange work for tuition to staple, trim, and package our product. This provides the means to send their children to our Christian school and provides the help that we need at a reasonable cost. We believe that we offer more than good literature; we offer you a labor of love for God, family, and country.
Perhaps our students can help your students, and in the process we can help each other to rebuild the foundations of America upon the original intent of the Founding Fathers. Let us never forget this thought provoking question, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
